SHOULD GOVERNMENT STAND IT'S GROUNDS !!!

Commercial transporters clash with FRSC over Sept 1 introduction of speed limit device.

A major crisis that may disrupt road transportation in Nigeria for a long period if not averted by the Presidency has broken out between commercial transporters in the country and the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.

The crisis of confidence between the two parties arises over the decision by the commission to introduce speed limit device technology on commercial vehicles with effect from September 1 this year. N35,000 for device, N1,000 for installation.

It was learnt that the FRSC is working with a private Nigerian firm to enforce the controversial deal, which would require each vehicle owner to buy the device for N35,000 and pay additional N1,000 for installation.

The transporters claim that with each of the 25 million vehicles in Nigeria paying N36,000 to the FRSC, it would rake in at least N900 billion from innocent Nigerians for a technology that would not add value to their lives.

In a protest letter to the FRSC, the transporters warned the commission to desist from going ahead with the project, as it would endanger the lives of vehicles owners rather than protect them and accused the FRSC of bringing an outdated technology to Nigeria, which had long been phased out in Britain, India, Kenya, Tanzania, United States of America and Uganda because of its adverse negative effects.

The road transporters writing under the aegis of International Human Rights and Anti-corruption Society gave the FRSC one month with effect from August 17, 2015 to publicly declare the discontinuation of the device or face a court action. In the letter addressed to the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, and signed by the Director General, Dr. U.O. Udofia and Secretary General, Barrister E.A. Egbebu, the group also drew the attention of the commission that it lacks the power to introduce the said device under the Section 10 (3) of the FRSC Act of 2007.

It warned that the FRSC should adopt and use the world acclaimed Spider Technology that comes with a 3-in-one high definition camera with long range monitoring of highways to capture over speeding vehicles.

The group pointed out that while it does not oppose the use of technology to control road speed limit on the highways, it would not fold its hands and allow the FRSC to bring in anything for money-making purpose and endanger the lives of vehicle owners.

They complained that while the Spider technology was being used globally it was wrong for the FRSC to contemplate installing speed limiter on vehicles so that they do not run beyond the fixed limit even when pursued by armed robbers, kidnappers, hired killers and car snatchers. “Speed limiter in all developed and African countries had been banned.

Again speed limit device had been discovered to expose motorists to danger such as armed robbery and other dangerous exposures.
“Therefore, in a country like Nigeria where there is serious prevalence of insecurity, the installation of speed limiter in vehicles would be counterproductive and self-defeating,” the transporters said. Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Commission has insisted that the speed limiter will be enforced by the commission with effect from tomorrow.

ACCORDING TO BALARABE MUSA !!!

President should build special prisons for corrupt Nigerians – Balarabe.

During the time of the former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, him and most of his colleagues lived a moderate lifestyle life due to the fact that corruption was  minimal.

In an interview with Vanguard newspaper he was asked how he felt about Governors and other people in politics who use their positions to amass wealth while in public office.
The former Gov said:
"I feel bad because these are resources that should be used to liberate the people and  provide welfare and security for them. It is even more worrisome that in most places those in power have not provided even the basic things for their subjects while they swim in opulence and mindless extravagance, creating a big gap between them and those who elected them into office. That is directly responsible for the negative things the nation is grappling with today characterized by unemployment, poverty, insecurity and lose of confidence in public service.
"That is why I strongly advise President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently build special prisons for those people as a matter of urgent national interest.
The danger is that if he does not go after those who stole so much from the nation’s treasury, these malevolent elements could use the ill-gotten wealth to topple Nigeria. Many of them are believed to have stolen as much as trillions of Naira and stashed away in foreign accounts. A recent report revealed that some crooked Nigerians might have stolen more than the annual budget of Nigeria.
Let them go to prison. In fact I would advise him to build special prisons for those who plundered Nigeria because it has to be done.
If you allow these thieves to continue stealing and eventually controlling political power in the country, you will lead this country to destruction, anarchy, sustained instability, military coup and social revolution.
That is why I strongly advise Buhari to go the whole hug in dealing with those who plundered Nigeria’s wealth.

IS OSHIOMHOLE A 'WEATHER-MAN' ???

Oshiomhole has forgotten so soon by Reno Omokri.

Article written by former presidential aide, Reno Omokri. Read below...
On July 17, 2012, a recently re-elected Governor Adams Oshiomhole visited Aso Rock Presidential Villa and on his way out he had a chat with State House Correspondents and said as follows “what the Edo election has confirmed is that when the President and Commander-in-Chief puts the country first and conducts himself as a statesman, not just as a party leader, credible elections are possible, because people were apprehensive that the Nigerian Army could be misused. But of course, I told them I didn’t think they were right, but the President’s clear directive was that the votes must count."

The former labour leader continued in his praise of then President Jonathan saying "We need to appreciate the President and encourage him to sustain this principle of truly reminding all of us, who hold political office, that we are at the mercy of the electorate, not of the Presidency. I think the President has done that. The President has demonstrated statesmanship. I think there is hope for Nigeria”.

Going by the statement he made above, many Nigerians were shocked to read his recent statement on August 23rd, 2015 where he said inter alia "if the Igbos were marginalized, it was President Jonathan and the PDP. If Nigerians know what these people did, they will stone them to death – jungle justice."

How is it possible that three years ago, Governor Oshiomhole saw President Jonathan as a well behaved statesman who rose above partisanship to put the nation first and then make a 180 degree turn to attack the same person and suggest that he be stoned by the public?

Anyone who knows Former President Goodluck Jonathan knows that the first description of him by Governor Oshiomhole is correct.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is a man who does not lust for power and refused to reach out to grasp power even when it was within his reach in 2010 during the saga occasioned by the tragic illness of his boss, President Umaru Musa Yar'adua.

Jonathan demonstrated loyalty, patience and complete submission to the will of God and God elevated him.

When Dr. Jonathan lost the March 2015 Presidential election, he did not wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission to finish declaring results before calling then candidate Muhamnadu Buhari to concede.

As a result, for the first time in her history, Nigeria does not have any judicial challenge against the winner of a Presidential election.

President Jonathan is a man of honour who does not deserve the treatment being meted out to him by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

The Comrade Governor should come to an awareness that his party, the All Progressive Congress, is now in power. They are no more in opposition.

The Jonathan administration remains the only administration in Nigeria's history that promoted freedom of Speech by signing the Freedom of Information Bill into law so Nigerians could have access to any information they so desire.

Versions of the Freedom of Information Law are also in force in Western nations including the US.

Only on August 21st, 2015, an investigation by Leadership Newspapers (whose publisher is an APC chieftain and former Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the party) revealed that no US official ever told Governor Adams Oshiomhole or any other person that one minister stole $6 Billion under President Jonathan's watch and challenged the Comrade Governor to name the US official that said so and the minister involved.

Governor Oshiomhole may want to take advantage of the FOI law by ensuring that his aides use it to verify any allegation he may have before he going public with it.

For example, he could have accessed freely available information from the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, as to the total cost of the 2nd Niger Bridge and he would have established that the entire cost of the bridge was ₦108 billion. How is it then possible to pay a consultancy fee of ₦140 billion for a project of ₦108 billion as the comrade Governor alleged?

When the comrade Governor said that the Agricultural Transformation of the Jonathan administration was a hoax, did he know that the International Food Policy Research Institute, IFPRI, revealed in their annual Global Hunger Index that hunger in Nigeria reduced while Jonathan was President?

This fact was carried by no less a medium than Premium Times and most Nigerians would know that Premium Times would not publish anything good about the Jonathan administration if it was not true.

Governor Oshiomhole should note that four years is not such a long time. Every time spent in distracting President Buhari from the task of governance by attacking ex-President Jonathan is borrowed from time that should have been spent in helping the new administration succeed.

You do not try to please a man who may be kind to you by demonizing a man who has been kind to you. When you do that, you are sending two messages.

First, you are telling the man who has already been kind to you that he was foolish for being kind to you.  Secondly you are communicating to the man who may be kind to you that he will be foolish if he goes on to extend kindness to you.

I pray that my Christian advise does not meet with the bombastic response that previous attempts at engaging the Comrade Governor have received. I mean no harm as I only want to draw the attention of Governor Oshiomhole to the fact that no condition is permanent on earth.

JONATHAN'S ADMINISTRATION: 'WOOROO-WOOROO INC'. !!!

Jonathan, Obuah & Diezani in Fresh $6.9m Fraud.

One of the investigative panels constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari to trace and recover stolen funds has uncovered a fraud of $6.9 million, allegedly perpetrated by key officials of the administration of president Goodluck Jonathan.

Findings by the panel revealed that at a point in Jonathan administration, the 6.9 million was purportedly spent on the purchase of three 40-feet mobile stages for use during mass public speaking events.

Findings revealed former President Jonathan, his Chief Security Officer (CSO), O.J. Obuah and former Petroleum Minister, Deziani Allison Madueke, were involved in the deal...

A reliable source told LEADERSHIP that Obuah initiated a memo dated October 17, 2011, to the former president, seeking his approval for the purchase of three mobile stages.

The source who is one of the investigators, noted that apart from the sum for the stages being incredibly inflated as confirmed by experts in the industry, there was no evidence yet that any of such stages was purchased.

He said the industry experts confirmed that while the cost of mobile stages is determined by the size and designs, “only outlandish rock star musicians in Europe and the US spend hundreds of thousands on their huge stages that are bigger than the 40-feet stages.

“Even then, those musicians and super stars would not pay over $2m per stage, according to industry sources.”

Besides, the source said the offices of the Auditor-general and the Accountant-general were not informed about the process of procurement of the three mobile stages, which is not known to extant Nigerian laws and due process regulations.

“There are no records of this purchase which was carried out late 2011,” the source hinted, adding that this purchase was carried out just few months after Jonathan won the 2011 presidential election for a full term after completing the late President Umaru Yar’adua’s tenure.

He quoted Jonathan’s CSO as telling the former president in the memo that this is regarding “my earlier discussion with Your Excellency on the security implication of your public appearances and your subsequent directive on the need to procure a secured presidential platform.”

“And on the same day, without any financial advice or purchase order reviews, the former president minuted an approval of the request to buy the three stages to the then minister of petroleum resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Maduekwe,” the source noted.

He also quoted Jonathan as stating in his minute that, “we have discussed this, please deal,” after which he initiated the memo. He added that after the former president had approved the deal on the same October 17, the senior special assistant to the president on administrative matters, Matt Aikhionbare, wrote another letter on the strength of the president’s approval, requesting the petroleum minister to take action on the request to purchase the stages for $6.9m.

The source further stated that it became obvious that the money was released by the next month when the NNPC raised a payment voucher with number 3840336, in which it directed that the money be taken from one of its accounts in New York, United States of America.

Findings further revealed that the money was first routed from the US bank to an NNPC account in one of the branches of a commercial bank in Maitama, Abuja, from where the money was sent to a private account.

It was gathered that the sum of $6.9m was then credited to another account in another commercial bank, belonging to an Abuja-based logistics firm, and linked to one of those allegedly involved in the deal.

The source said specifically that the $6.9miilion in question was promptly paid on November 29, 2011, into a private account belonging to the former CSO.

Investigators said that while the CSO himself was yet to show proof of the purchase, his bosses at the SSS were angry that he took the initiative to write such a memo requesting for the mobile stages, an action officials say was way above his pay grade.

“It is not the duty or responsibility of the CSO to make the determination on that purchase. He was meant to have informed the service, which will then review the situation and act accordingly,” an official of one of the security agencies conducting the investigation said.

The source added, “what has happened here is that the former president and the former minister with the collusion of the CSO decided to dip their hands into the public till and steal public funds for other purposes since no one has found the stages as we speak.

“The former president approved the procurement of the mobile platforms without due process and bye-passing the Procurement Act, neither was there appropriation in the 2011 budget for such facility.”

According to the source, it is even quite curious that that neither the minister of finance nor the Director-general of the Budget Office was aware of the deal.

This, he alleged, is just one of the several instances where the Jonathan administration used secret NNPC accounts to fund many questionable projects and for alleged personal financial aggrandisements.

Also, the National Economic Council at its meeting on June 29, in Aso Rock, queried the non-remittance of some of the finances generated by the NNPC into the federation account.

The council made stunning revelations including that while the NNPC claimed it earned about N8.1trillion in the last two years, what it paid into the federation account in the same period was about N4.3 trillion.

The balance was said to have been kept in several secret accounts operated by the corporation, allowing Jonathan and his cronies access to such unknown accounts to do with money kept there as they pleased.

To plug all loopholes aiding corruption, President Buhari had directed that all revenue-generating agencies of government including the NNPC should now pay all revenues to a Treasury Single Account (TSA).
