Between Independence in 1960 and the late 80’s Nigeria had a production line of top-notch boxers from world Champions Hogan Kid Bassey through Dick Tiger, and then Billy Famous , Peter Konyegwachie (who won a silver medal at the LA Olympics, middle weight Jeremiah Okorodudu, heavy weight Joseph Lasisi, and welterweight Obisia Nwankpa, one of Nigeria’s longest reigning champions, whose title fight with Jamaican Saoul Mamby was a career highlight.
