Buhari refuses to forgive Saraki: Fight on corruption Must go on.
Bukola Saraki is in a quagmire. All efforts by the Speaker of the House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara, to settle the rift between the Presidency and the Senate President has failed to yield any positive results.
A credible source told NAIJABLAB that President Muhammadu Buhari laughed, with his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, when Dogara tried to beg him to forgive Saraki so that the case of his false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal could be dropped.
Buhari told them that he can never involve himself in such dirty practice. He told Dogara that Saraki should help himself by resigning if he knows that he has stolen money through fake means.
It was gathered that at the meeting between President Buhari and Dogara, the Presidency insisted that Saraki must severe his relationship with Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu if he's still in APC.
Findings by PUNCH showed that the development meant the removal of Ekweremadu as the DSP.
It was gathered that removing Ekweremadu was reportedly viewed by The Presidency as one of the possible political moves that could help Saraki to keep his office even if he is cleared at the court.
“The view of the Presidency is that the arrangement in the Senate whereby a PDP senator is the deputy in an APC-led government is a misnomer, which should not be allowed.
“If there is a political option, this is one; the arrangement is not right,” said a senior official.
