A three-storey building, 29 Oloto Street, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, has collapsed yesterday killing at least 10 persons, with 15 others seriously injured. The owner of the building, one Alhaji Dimeji, is on the run. NEMA, National Emergency Management Agency, were there to take charge of situation. However a drama ensued when the head of the NEMA team, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, was arrested by the leader of the Police Rapid Response Squad on ground. Mr Akeem Odumosu, the leader of the RRS had insisted that on-lookers and local youths, who were helping with the rescue should quit the scene, much to the disagreement of the NEMA official who felt they were doing a good job. Rescue was therefore delayed because Farinloye was taken to the nearby Denton Police Station to be charged for 'obstruction'.
- Yeparipa...Confusion don shele (happen). Instead make dem dey save lives, dem dey quarrel. D typical Naija pawa game. Dis na 'Double wahala for dead body, and d owner of dead body'. In dis case na Lagos state (Fashola) get d dead body o.
- By d way all dis ogbologbo ancient buildings for Yaba and Ebute Metta areas need to be reviewed and checked out. Some of dem old pass Nigeria itself (over 55years old). Dem go get ghosts sef.
- What a waste of lives...and landlords for lagos don 'gboro' now o. I hear say rent na big deal now o...even for face-me-i-face-you. My heart goes out to dem.
- I think cheap Housing is one priority area Fashola must tackle, instead of wasting awa money on stupid Atlantic City....ATLANTIC CITY my foot.
