VIAGRA TO BE USED IN PREGNANT WOMEN.

See full size image

Scientists in New Zealand and Australia are using the anti-impotence drug, Viagra to enhance the flow of blood to the placenta during pregnancy, thereby boosting the survival of babies that are not growing properly in the womb. This disorder known as 'pre-eclampsia' accounts for over 600 stillborn babies born every year in the UK, for instance. It happens because the arteries feeding the placenta do not widen enough to deliver all the blood the baby needs for development, in some women. Viagra was launched in the UK in 1998, as the world's first drug for erectile dysfuncion.
