Britain is experiencing a baby boom. There were nearly 730,000 babies born in England and Wales last year. A quarter of them were babies born to immigrant mothers, while about 30,000 were born to women above the age of 40 years. According to figures, this is the highest number of babies born in Britain in more than 40 years. This figures have partly been attributed to the commensurate increase in immigration in the past years.
