(CULLED FROM VENTURES AFRICA)
Nigerian born, Dr. Osatohanmwen Osemwengie has been an integral member of the American armed forces, building drones for the United States Army. These drones are used for surveillance to gather important information, as well as take out terrorist camps.
Dr. Osatohanmwen Osemwengie, who comes from Benin, Edo state, joins the list of Nigerians making a difference around the world.
Here’s what you should know about Dr. Osato Osemwengie:
1. He is a successful academic
Dr. Osemwengie has four graduate degrees, a Doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Cincinnati. He is currently working on his 5th and 6th Master’s degree in software engineering at Regis University and Information Systems at the Keller Graduate School of Management.
2. He is the founder of a US-based University
Dr. Osato Osemwengie is the founder of the Open Robotics University; a tuition free engineering degree-granting university that allows people to further exercise their talents and expand their knowledge into all fields related to engineering.
3. His skill sets him apart from other educational administrators
Dr. Osemwengie was selected in 2008 to present at the world robotics championships, having expertly coached robotics and served as software engineering mentor to robotics teams.
4. He has been recognized both at home and abroad.
Prior to his trip to the United States in 1982, Dr. Osemwengie served as an administrator of the College of Education, Benin City and was recognized as their Educator of the Year for securing funding used to design and implement pre-service teacher education programs.
He served as the Administrator of the Columbus City School System from 1992 to 2011, where he coordinated staff and student recruitment. He also developed programs to increase staff and student retention. He also taught for five years (1987- 1992) in the aforementioned school district. Dr. Osemwengie was a facilitator for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation- sponsored Ohio Leadership for Integrating Technology Initiative (OLIT).
It is true that the science is fast becoming an integral component in the battle of influences all over the world. Ventures Africa recently reported how Nigeria is adopting the drone war approach against terrorists. This could also mean the country needs great minds like Dr. Osato Osemwengie to help build and develop new technology.
LOW CRIME RATES IN NETHERLANDS !!!
Prisons Are Shutting Down in Netherlands because People Are Not Committing Crime.
In 2013, 19 Dutch prisons closed because the country didn't have enough criminals to fill them. Now, five more prisons are slated to close their doors by the end of the summer, according to internal documents obtained by The Telegraaf.
While these closures will result in the loss of nearly 2,000 jobs, only 700 of which will transition into other roles within Dutch law enforcement, the closing of prisons follows a steady drop in crime since 2004.
Funny enough, the "problem" of empty jail cells has even gotten to the point where, last September, they had to import 240 prisoners from Norway just to keep the facilities full.

Funny enough, the "problem" of empty jail cells has even gotten to the point where, last September, they had to import 240 prisoners from Norway just to keep the facilities full.
Still, according to The Telegraaf's report, Justice Minister Ard van der Steur announced to parliament that the cost of maintaining sparsely-filled prisons was a major problem for the country.
A number of factors underlie the Netherlands' ability to keep its crime rate so low, namely, relaxed drug laws, a focus on rehabilitation over punishment, and an electronic ankle monitoring system that allows people to re-enter the workforce.
A study published in 2008 found the ankle monitoring system reduced the recidivism rate by up to half compared to traditional incarceration. Instead of wasting away in a jail cell, eating up federal dollars, convicted criminals are given the opportunity to contribute to society.
Our country Nigeria can learn from this by introducing REAL social security to discourage crime.

POLICE BRUTALITY IN NIGERIA !!!
How Policemen Damage This Lagos-Based Designer's Eye.
Stephen Akams, a Lagos-based interior designer is on admission at University of Benin Teaching Hospital with a damaged eye.
The 41-year-old man said the case is so bad that a medical result he would get on Thursday is what would determine whether he would be able to see clearly again with his left eye or not.
According to Punch, Akams was battered last Thursday, March 24, along the Benin bypass, Edo State, by policemen numbering about seven while he was returning from an assignment in Enugu State.
It was learnt four of the policemen were in a vehicle ahead of a commercial car conveying the artisan.
The police van was in the middle of the road, moving at a slow speed when the driver of the car signalled to overtake it by blowing the horn. It was said that the policemen refused to give way for the driver.
Akams, who spoke with Punch on the telephone, said he also signalled at the policemen when the blockade persisted, but they took offence and flagged down the car.
He said, “Our driver was driving at a speed limit of about 70 kilometres per hour, but the police vehicle was going slower in the middle of the road.
“In an effort to go past the vehicle, our driver sounded the horn, but the driver, who eventually turns to be a policeman, started abusing us.
“When we managed to go past them, I signalled at the driver of the vehicle to caution him. That was when they started chasing us and overtook us. One of the guys at the back seat pulled a gun and threatened to shoot if we didn’t stop.
“We were not sure who they were, so we decided to reverse and that was when we discovered that another white vehicle was following us. They trapped us between them. They came down with their guns – about six or seven of them – and dragged me out of the vehicle. They accused me of insulting police officers and beat me up.”
He said the policemen turned down his entreaties, bundled him inside the boot of their car, and whisked him away into a bush.
“They asked me to bring N100,000 for them to release me. I told them I didn’t have the money. After they had driven for about two miles with me in the boot, they parked and brought me out and started beating me again. When one of them saw the hand band my friend’s daughter made for me and another one I bought in Ghana in 2012, they said I was a cultist.
“I refutted the claim and the beating continued. They brought handcuffs and threatened to take me to the Department of Criminal Investigation. One of them brought a fan belt and repeatedly hit me in the head.”
The guy, who is from Delta State, explained that the policemen fled the area after the belt hit him in the eye and he became unconscious. He added that it was the driver of the car he boarded that trailed him to the scene and took him to the hospital.
“It was the fan belt that hit my left eye and caused serious damage. I am still on admission at UBTH with blurred vision and in serious pain. I cannot see much with the eye and I am not sure when I am leaving the hospital because of the injury. The doctor said I would know my fate on Thursday,” he said
Akams said policemen at the Ugbowo division near UBTH directed him to the state police command when he reported the incident.
The Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Osifo, said he was not aware of the case and promised to get back to our correspondent. He had, however, yet to do so as of press time.

TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE KKK !!!
Just In: Trump Fan Brutally Pepper-Sprays Teenage Girl.
It was simple. I was in the crowd and a man started groping me. I yelled at him to stop touching me several times and he just laughed and continued, I yelled at him and said “you’re a grown man and I am a fifteen-year-old-girl, are you proud of yourself?” As I tried to push him off. He just kept laughing and still had his hands on me, so I hit him. Immediately as my hands went towards him I got pepper sprayed and then I basically got carried to a cop car because I could not open my eyes.
Violence between Trump supporters and his protesters has broken out once again. A capitol reporter for the Wisconsin State Journal, Molly Beck, witnessed an altercation at a rally in Janesville, which ended with a fifteen-year old protester being pepper-sprayed by a Trump supporter – so badly that she needed medical assistance afterwards. The heavily white townwith a lengthy history with the Ku Klux Klan exploded into chaos this afternoon as hundreds of Black Lives Matter activists clashed with racists.

PETROLEUM MINISTER APOLOGIZES TO NIGERIANS !!!
Junior Petroleum Minister, Ibe Kachikwu Apologizes for Saying "I'm Not A Magician".
The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, has apologized to Nigerians for his comments last week that the current petrol scarcity will continue till May, and that he's not a magician hence Nigerians should not expect a quicker end to the scarcity that has already stretched into weeks.
At a meeting with the Senate Committee on Petroleum on Tuesday, the minister apologised for his remarks.
He also assured that fuel queues will disappear across the nation by first week of April.
Why we don’t have fuel
The minister said while fuel scarcity will “definitely” end by April, Nigerians may have to wait till May for “major revolution” in the availability of the products.
Explaining why there is no immediate solution to the fuel scarcity, Kachikwu said 90 percent of Nigerian depots were not functional.
“Most fuel products into Nigeria come from Europe and it takes 14 days for fuel to land here,” he said.
On how to improve the productivity of the depots, he said the government would engage consultants to manage the depots. Process of engaging the consultants for management of the depots would start soon.
Kachikwu added: "I do apologise for the comment that I made jocularly with my friends in the press about being a magician and it offended Nigerians."

FAYOSE IS A PAIN IN APC'S 'POTOPOTO YANSH' !!!
APC declares Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose, threat to national security.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state on Monday said Governor Ayodele Fayose’s conducts were threats to national security.
It said the governor’s recent utterances and actions suggest acts of sabotage targeted at rendering national institutions ineffective to perform their statutory roles for effective government in a federal set-up.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, aiwo Olatunbosun, said this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti.
The statement noted that Mr. Fayose’s unguided serial statements had exposed him as a man fighting a lone battle against the Federal Government over alleged selfish motives.
He said such motives were targeted at putting millions of Nigerians in jeopardy of instability in an already tottering economy.
He cited the governor’s alleged death wish for President Muhammadu Buhari at a rally held at Fajuyi Square, Ado-Ekiti, over the weekend to welcome the detained member of the House of Assembly, Akanni Afolabi, to the state capital as a case study.
Mr. Olatunbosun regretted that besides the governor inciting Ekiti people against the operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS), he had also for umpteenth time, threatened to bring Mr. Buhari’s government down if any attempt was made to probe sundry alleged crimes levelled against him.
“We have heard of reports of Governor Fayose inciting the people to stone the operatives of the DSS anywhere they are seen.
“This is besides saying many unprintable things about the President, such as saying that he would soon die, and declaring the DG of DSS, Lawal Musa Daura, a personal non-grata in Ekiti State.
“It is regrettable that Mr. Fayose cannot separate his personal views as a man constantly at war with the Nigerian law from the views of lawful Ekiti people, who are ready to submit themselves to the Nigerian law where the rule of law and good governance flourish,” the party said.
Accusing the governor of running a government built on his personal image, the APC said this misconception had “robbed Ekiti people the quality leadership with the right mindset to see governance beyond the prism of self-glorification”.
“This failure to see governance beyond personal appeal of the governor is costing our state good governance for the development of our people and her deserved place of honour in this country.
“That is why the governor is wasting state resources on helicopter charter to ferry an accused person, Akanni Afolabi, from Abuja to Ekiti after which he took six pages of several newspapers on frivolous adverts to publish court records on the accused’s bail application and topped it with the donation of a new car to same Akanni, who is still under investigation over several criminal cases.
“Fayose has appointed himself national opposition leader just because he wants to help himself in his many criminal cases against the nation’s law,” it said.
Neither the governor, nor his aides or the state government had yet responded to the APC statement.

ADIOS TUNJI BRAITHWAITE !!!
ON TUNJI BRAITHWAITE
At 82, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite was not young, but one could be forgiven for thinking he would still be around for a long while. He was young at heart as evidenced in his mode of dressing, manner of speaking, and the company he kept.
He was Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's lawyer at the Justice Anya Tribunal where it was said that "unknown soldiers" burnt Fela's home in the infamous state assault on Kalakuta Republic in the 70s.
In the run up to the 2nd Republic, he founded the Nigerian Advance Party, which caught public attention with its promise to rid the country of rats & mosquitoes, described as vermins threatening public health.
The establishment press sought to portray him as a joker who was more interested in hugging the limelight than in espousing a fresh political ideology.
Later, he amended his promise to read waging war against the human rats & mosquitoes that were sucking Nigeria dry.
An old student of CMS Grammar School, he studied Law in the UK. He was a delegate at the 2014 Nigeria National Conference where he canvassed for a Confederal Constitution to replace the 1999 Constitution.
“Let the word go forth that there are a number of brave, honest nationalistic persons in this conference that, hopefully would be able to reconstruct Nigeria in a way that the blessings, peace and prosperity rightly deserved by the peoples of this country would be guaranteed by a New Confederal Constitution".*
He saw Nigeria's six geopolitical zones as uniquely different developmental problems for which a single one-size-fits-all solution can never work, given the reality of Nigeria’s diversity.
You may not always agree with him, but he walked his talk. May his soul rest in peace.

PSF UK GETS NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE !!!
PSF inaugurates UK Interim Working Committee
The Progressives Solidarity Forum, United Kingdom chapter has inaugurated a new working committee to steer the affairs of the forum.
The inauguration was sequel to the dissolving of the past executive a month ago.
This was contained in a statement issued to the press by the forum’s Director of Information, Media and Publicity, Jacob Ogunseye.
The Grand Patron of the forum, Dr. Ibrahim Emokpaire, who was also the former chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (UK), congratulated the new executives and tasked them to see their appointment as a call to service.
Pouring encomium on the former General Secretary of the forum, Barrister Joseph Adebola, Emokpaire described him as a man of integrity who has displayed a high level of competency and encouraged him to prepare himself for bigger opportunities in the near future.
He also announced his elevation to the office of National Director of International Affairs.
Emokpaire urged the executive members to respond to the clarion call of making their nation great.
The new executive featured some members of the former executive.
The chairman said: “Your appointment at this period of our country (Nigeria) is a clarion call to service. You need to set the ball rolling as soon as possible to reposition the forum, and our country at large.
“Many people and organisations are looking up to PSF at a period like this, the gory situation in our father’s land should be of concern to all and sundry. We should act now to save the situation, the corruption in the past government was capable of setting the country on fire, our inputs are needed and it is now.”
Responding on behalf of the newly executive body, the new Chairman of PSF UK, Joseph Fadele, expressed optimism over the appointment and promised to work with other PSF executives and the general members of the forum to attain its goals.
In his words: “PSF UK has placed in our hands a great job and collectively we will strive to achieve the desire greatness and work any authority to re-write the history of our dear country Nigeria.
“I urge all the executive members to please work with me to reposition PSF”.
“The time to build is now, and I want all the members to see the work you have given us as a work we should all do together.”
Other executive members sworn in included Oluwaseun Bayewu – Deputy Chairman; Olive Onwualu – Vice Chairman; and Patrick Adelusi – General Secretary.

BUHARI PRAISES TINUBU !!!
Buhari lavishes praise on Tinubu, says he’s a dogged, forthright leader, politician.
President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he clocks 64 years on March 29.
The President, according to a statement by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said the rising political profile of Mr. Tinubu since he was elected a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1992 was a testimony to his forthrightness, diligence and doggedness.
Mr. Buhari said it was the same qualities that endeared him to the electorate and gave him all-round success as a private sector worker, a businessman and two-term governor of Lagos State.
The statement added, “As one of the pillars of the APC, President Buhari commends the visionary leadership style of the Asiwaju of Lagos, who is also the Jagaban of the Borgu Kingdom in Niger State, for creating a formidable opposition party in Nigeria that worked vigorously within a short period to oust a party that had been in power for 16 years.
“The President assures the national leader that his patriotism and commitment to democracy and good governance, and his generous spirit will always be remembered and appreciated by generations of Nigerians.
“He prays that the Almighty God will grant the Asiwaju long life, good health, wisdom and prosperity as he steadfastly supports efforts to promote the development of Nigeria.”
