Confusion As Ahmed Gulak Takes Over PDP Headquarters.

Goodluck Jonathan's former special adviser on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak on Wednesday afternoon stormed the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abuja with some of his supporters and openly declared himself as the National Chairman of the opposition party.

A court had ruled that Gulak or any other politician from his geo-political zone should take over the office of chairman of the PDP, declaring that Uche Secondus was occupying the position illegally.

But Secondus has gone on appeal.

DELE MOMODU ON JONATHAN !!

Where Is Former President, Goodluck Jonathan? Dele Momodu Writes.

Fellow Nigerians, I’m surprised that no one has asked about the wellbeing, welfare and whereabouts of our dear former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan. Are we so wicked and uncaring that we have forgotten the gentleman who brought us fresh air so soon? Do we truly suffer from “collective amnesia” (apologies Wole Soyinka) that no one is coming up in defence of the man who brought FaceBook to Africa’s biggest nation? Where are all those acolytes who were falling all over themselves this time last year during the Presidential campaigns? Where are the royal fathers from different parts of Nigeria who were decorating our President with all kinds of esoteric Chieftaincy titles?

Where are the experts who were churning out endless statistics about how God had blessed us with the greatest President Nigeria ever knew? What happened to all the economic magicians who claimed that former President Jonathan had propelled us to the pinnacle of the temple and proclaimed that in consequence we were Africa’s numero uno economy? Where are the priests, pastors, alfas, Imams, marabouts, traditional worshippers, and all manner of religious personages who trumpeted that Ebele Goodluck Jonathan was the anointed of God at the 2015 Presidential elections?

Where are the 14 million farmers who were connected by mobile phones in our season of unprecedented Agricultural Revolution? Where are the plentiful loaves of cassava bread and the myriad of rice pyramids that we were told littered everywhere? Where are the ultra-modern air-conditioned trains that we were told travelled from Lagos to Kafanchan, to Kano and Enugu? Where is the second Niger Bridge; and the strategic East-West road?

I have too many questions begging for answers but I will limit myself to only that relating to former President Goodluck Jonathan. I’m just trying to imagine the state of his mind at this terrible moment. I’m not a psychologist but I can attempt to play the role of one by doing some psychoanalysis of the man who left power under one year ago only to witness that things have literally fallen apart with his legacy completely obliterated in the twinkle of an eye.

In case you think I’m mucking around and mocking our former President, please perish the thought. I’m more of a sympathiser who would wish to draw sumptuous lessons from the tragedy that befell our former leader. From what I can see so far, President Jonathan as a person is a good man who was fortunate to have been able to effortlessly navigate and meander his way through the murky waters of Nigerian politics to arrive at the topmost position in Nigeria. He was obviously ill-prepared for power and governance and when it landed on his laps he hardly knew what to do with it. He was like a student who was too favoured and over-pampered by his lecturers until he had to write external exams and get exposed to the real world.

I’m certain, President Jonathan could not have bargained for the hurricane that has hit him. When he conceded and congratulated the then President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, he must have looked forward to a life of bliss in retirement. But what is happening now is the worst nightmare for a man who had been compared to Mahatma Ghandi, Lee Kuan Yew and Nelson Mandela.

I don’t know how this cacophony of allegations and babel of counter-allegations would end or subside but I am convinced President Goodluck Jonathan would have to speak up sooner than later. The reason is simple. I expect his embattled foot-soldiers to put all the blame on him as the one who authorised the disbursement of our common wealth by the most generous government in human history. As to the sharing of the bazaar, let’s be fair, how many people are there who would have been paid those stupendous sums and would reject the money or ask where it was coming from.

At the end of the day, the former President would have to bear his own cross and come out clean and accept the blame. As the saying goes the buck stops at number one! I’m not sure apologies would suffice at the stage things have reached especially if the Buhari government is determined and ready to take its pound of flesh. In my view, it would be difficult to jail the messengers and let the master who sent them on irrational errands go scot free.

That is the dilemma President Buhari would have to grapple with in the not too distant future. Would Buhari in good conscience be able to jail a former Nigerian President if indeed there was an agreement not to probe and punish the man? Will he be able to ignore the fact that this was a man who, uncharacteristically, voluntarily relinquished power after losing an election and was heralded by the whole world as an apostle of peaceful and democratic change in Africa? It is a tough question that only President Buhari can answer.

The other poser is, how much of the wasted or looted funds can be recovered? I think from the experience of the past, it may not amount to much after all. The litigations are going to go on ad infinitum and some of the alleged culprits may actually escape punishment on technical and other grounds. The EFCC under the energetic and passionate Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was faced with such frustration. There is no other way to punish anyone under the law without going to court.

That is the democratic way. It is the democratic way that former President Jonathan embraced, leading him to loosen his hold on power. And it is the democratic way that brought this our new President Buhari to power. There is thus no other way but to follow the judicial process and the principles of natural justice that flow therefrom. Those campaigning for extra-judicial prosecution and conviction may soon reach a cul-de-sac. You can keep the guys indefinitely in detention but how will that bring back the money.

The truth is that the worst form of corruption is abuse of office and the impunity that it begets. That was the basis of the unbridled corruption that enveloped the Jonathan administration. If it remains unchecked, it will not be long before this present government also succumbs and becomes engulfed by the corruption it is professing to fight. Then we would have come full circle without anything to show for it, not even a wee part of our plundered wealth.

I think the biggest mistake of this government was the policy of saying people should not pay foreign currencies into their accounts. This has deprived the government of springing a surprise on those who would have kept their loot in Nigeria. It is now too late to expect those people to pay these foreign currencies into their accounts because of the policy reversal apparently foisted upon us by the visit of the IMF team.

I am certain most of those monies have escaped our shores and no matter the anti- money laundering agreements we sign, those foreign countries are not likely to repatriate the funds at a time the world economy is almost comatose. This is another example of the need by all spheres of government to think through policies before they are announced. There have been too many policy somersaults by our apex financial regulatory bodies in recent time to augur well for our ailing economy. Negative signals have been sent by government to investors and citizens both at home and abroad and this has further increased the pain and burden of Nigerians.

My personal advice is for government to work harder at getting back most of the money that has been stolen or misappropriated, as a matter of top priority. President Buhari may have to enter into unpleasant compromises to achieve this, but such is life. There is no point wasting the little resources now available to us on prosecuting and jailing criminals without getting something substantial out of the exercise.

I pray and wish that President Goodluck Jonathan can redeem his erstwhile government a bit by appealing to his men and women and convincing them to return the atrocious sums of money which they stole without the fear of God. He should save Nigeria from this unnecessary ordeal of trying to compel refund of the filthy lucre and allow this government to settle down and concentrate on the serious business of governance.

THANK YOU, LT. GENERAL T. Y. DANJUMA

I know this would come as a surprise to one of Nigeria’s most respected and respectable retired army Generals but I believe we must always show gratitude to those who touch our lives hoping that others would emulate such acts of selflessness. Let me go straight to my gist.

I had called Senator Mrs Daisy Danjuma sometime last year seeking an appointment with her husband, Lt. General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma. My mission was simple but not seemingly so easy to achieve. I wanted “General” as we all call him to write a foreword to my forthcoming book titled PENDULUM: A Book of Prophecies. “Aunty Daisy” as we call the amiable Senator told me the General was in Abuja but should be back the following day. I promised to drop one of the special draft copies for the General. Indeed, I had presented one copy to President Muhammadu Buhari when he invited me to the Presidential villa in Abuja.

I went to the Danjumas hoping to drop the book and run but Aunty Daisy said the General just returned from Abuja and would like to see me briefly before retiring upstairs. I entered the house and personally handed him my book. He told me it might take him a few months to read and then decide whether he would pen the foreword or not. The General has never been known to hide words under the tongue; he is very blunt and straight-forward. I told him I would wait patiently for his decision. He said he had many books to read and that he had just bought President Olusegun Obasanjo’s latest books to add to his reading list, that very day. I saw a man who relished knowledge and reading and I knew I had come to the right person.

I had good reason to choose the General. I had previously identified him as an intellectual and avid reader of my column. He had surprised me on one occasion when I attended his annual birthday celebration on December 9, in Victoria Island, Lagos. In the middle of the merriment, General pulled me aside and said: “I’m a great fan of your column because you write so well and logically… I think I missed the last two and I’ve just told my wife to make sure she gets it from you…” I was deeply touched by the compliment.

I have been a family friend of the Danjumas for about 15 years and Senator Danjuma has become my big sister to the extent that I am invited to and welcomed in their homes in Abuja, Lagos, Surrey and Marbella at any time. It has been a privilege knowing the man of few words who retired from the military with a glowing record and high esteem. Since then, he has taken to the boardroom with consummate ease and has remained one of the most astute financial players in Africa. What is more, the General has committed a substantial chunk of his immense fortune acquired from his numerous businesses to charity. He is a man of impeccable taste and academic nobility. He reads voraciously and his libraries are well-stocked. His selection, and collection, of world music is amazing. He carries himself with so much grace and panache.

My patience in relation to the foreword to my book eventually paid off two weeks ago when I suddenly got a call from Senator Daisy Danjuma after I had almost given up. She said the General would like to speak with me and put him on the line. The General told me that he had read the book and he had found it so “fantastic” that he had agreed to author the foreword. There was only one word he wants me to change.

I was very grateful and excited. I have since picked up the work from his Lagos home and, by the grace of God, the book should be ready for publication and circulation shortly. There are a few other books that are almost ready and we should celebrate a festival of books from me this year.

Exciting times are coming.

FLORIDA HOMES & CROCS !!!

Florida Man finds crocodile in his swimming pool.

One man had quite a fright when he found a most unwelcome guest in his swimming pool, an 8ft long crocodile. The reptile was found relaxing in the shallow part of the pool and didn't look like it was in the mood to share its space. Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, Becky Herrin says a homeowner called about 7:30 a.m. Thursday Jan. 21st to report the croc in his pool.

Herrin says deputies and officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission safely removed the animal and returned it to its native habitat.

JONATHAN GOVERNMENT LOOTED US BLIND !!!

Money Looted Under Jonathan Can Service 3 Annual Budgets – EFCC Reveals.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has revealed that the funds looted from Nigeria in the last five years is enough to fund three years Nigerian budget.

He stated this during an informal meeting with Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Earlier at the meeting, Prof Soyinka exchanged banters with the no-nonsense EFCC chairman, at one point he even wished him “good luck, but not that [Jonathan] one.”
Magu used the occasion of the meeting to discuss his plans for a renewed clampdown on corrupt officials in Nigeria. He was accompanied by some of his aides.

Prof Soyinka expressed his unfettered support to Magu, urging him to do all the right things necessary to put an end to the the culture of impunity and corruption that has taken over the country.

Soyinka also made reference to ex-Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is currently in the UK waiting for her corruption trial to commence. He said EFCC must double their efforts.

The new EFCC chairman assured that looters will start feel the heat in the next few weeks.

DUBAI HIDE-OUTS OF NIGERIAN POLITICIANS TO BE EXPOSED !!!

Buhari Gives Order to Reveal All Politicians With Questionable Assets in Dubai.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered Nigerian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to investigate, document, and submit the full list of all Nigerian public officials with assets in the UAE.

Inside sources say Mr. President had also set a deadline for the completion and releasing of the list.

The list must be out latest on March 31, 2016. All politicians with questionable assets, no matter your party, will be exposed. The presidential deadline comes on the heels of bilateral agreements signed earlier this week between Nigeria and the UAE to facilitate the extradition of suspects wanted in Nigeria as well as the repatriation of stolen assets back to Nigeria.

Presidency sources told Sahara Reporters that Nigeria’s ambassador to the UAE, Ibrahim Auwalu, had been asked to extend his term of service to ensure that the list is accurately compiled and submitted to Buhari.

The UAE has become a destination for many public officials since President Buhari’s inauguration at the end of May 2015. Many Nigerian officials with assets and real estate in the UAE, especially Dubai, have fled there hoping for sanctuary from Buhari’s prosecution for corruption.

Nigeria’s bilateral agreement with the UAE is part of the Buhari administration’s agenda to set in motion legal mechanisms to facilitate the arrest of corrupt politicians and the repatriation of stolen assets.

Names of numerous public officials and politically exposed persons who own real estate in Dubai were leaked this week but some of them are denying.

The list, released by SR, include ex-Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko, Goodluck Jonathan’s special assistant on domestic matters, Waripamowei Dudafa, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Muazu, former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Mr. Jonathan’s former campaign spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Transportation, Idris Umar, former Minister for the Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe, former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke (who recently moved to The Hague), former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, who has been indicted in Nigeria, former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

Sources say some politicians use other peoples' names to buy properties in Dubai, that was why they were bold to claim that they don't have houses in Dubai but EFCC is working and will expose them.

Twelve guns, six axes and four cutlasses were recovered from the suspected cultists. Some of the suspects confessed to having been involved in kidnapping, fraud, motorcycle robbery among others.

The CP noted that the rate of crime and other criminal activities was gradually declining in the state, a success he attributed to human capacity of the force and the quantum of logistics and moral support given to the Command by the State government. He disclosed to newsmen that the police were able to achieve these within two weeks, between 7 January to 21 January, 2016.

DASUKI FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM !!!

Dasuki drags FG to ECOWAS court, demands N500m damages.

Following his continued detention despite meeting his bail conditions, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, has filed a suit against the Federal Government before the ECOWAS Court in Abuja and is demanding payment of N500 million damages for alleged rights infringement.

In the suit filed by his lawyer, Robert Emukpoeruo, Dasuki asked the court to declare his continued detention as “unlawful, arbitrary and an egregious violation” of his human rights. Dasuki in the suit also asked the court to declare that the alleged invasion of his Abuja and Sokoto residences on July 16 and 17, 2015 and the “forceful and unlawful seizure” of his properties, “without any lawful order or warrant” constituted a gross violation of his fundamental rights and offended the country’s treaty obligations as a signatory to the listed legal instruments.

No date has been set for hearing of the suit. In a related development, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja yesterday ordered the Federal government to produce him in court on February 16th. Dasuki's lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN), told the court that his client was abducted by security agents six weeks ago to an unknown destination. He told Justice Ademola that since the ex-NSA was whisked away, all efforts by his family and his lawyers to access him had been scuttled. Justice Ademola said:
“I am worried that the accused is not here. I do not want to set a bad precedent. Except the court gives express order for the defendant not to be in court, the accused must be brought to court from wherever he is. The accused must be here because I am not sure if what I am doing right now in the absence of the accused is not an illegality. Government and whoever is concerned must endeavour to do the necessary thing. The accused having been formally charged in court, must be produced in court for trial on the appointed days in compliance with the provisions of the law,”

Dasuki’s trial has been fixed for February 16 and 17 before Justice Ademola

TIDE OF THE WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION TO CONSUME EX-GENERALS !!!

Fresh Revelations: General Ihejirika, Others To Be Picked Up.

The presidential committee investigating arms procurement between 2007 and 2015 has launched another round of probe into the purchases of equipment by the Army during the said period.

An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, who confided in PUNCH on Wednesday in Abuja, said the commission was expecting another report from the presidential panel.

According to him, three former Army and Naval chiefs will be brought in.

They will be required to “clarify grey areas on arms purchased during their tenure.” He said the presidential panel would submit a report to the Presidency, which would be forwarded to the EFCC.

On Friday, the Presidency, in a statement by Garba Shehu, said the committee had submitted another report.

Shehu stated that Buhari had directed the EFCC to carry out further investigations into the alleged misconduct of some retired and serving officers of the Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Army in the deals.

Those affected in the order include the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.); and two former Chiefs of Air Staff, Air Marshal M. D. Umar (retd.); and Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd.).

A top presidency source revealed that, “Three former Army chiefs have questions to answer, including Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika; they may be invited to clarify some grey areas pertaining to arms procurement. As of today, the panel has not indicted anybody, but there are explanations that are needed to be made,” he stated.

Those who headed the Army during the period are Gen. Luka Yusuf (June 2007 to August 2008); Abdulrahman Dambazau (August 2008 to September 2010); Azubuike Ihejirika (September 2010 to January 2014); and Kenneth Minimah (2014 to 2015).

A top operative, who is close to the investigation, said the panel was reviewing the transactions of retired and serving officials of the Army after which it would move to the Navy.

Nobody will be spared if it;s discovered that you stole money that should have been used for all Nigerians.

SAD REALITY OF HAVING LUNATIC DRIVERS ON NIGERIAN ROADS !!!

This Beautiful Naija Lady Who Just Got Back From UK Dies In Fatal Car Crash In Lagos.

Oh dear...what a life! 25 years old Doyin Sarah Fagbenro completed her First and Second degrees in Law in the UK and relocated to Nigeria recently after spending most of her life there. Sadly, this beautiful lady died in a fatal accident along Lekki-Epe expressway in Lagos, caused by a reckless Danfo driver.

Her cousin, Ken Davidson, paid a touching tribute to her. This is so sad. See it and more photos...

DSF: Tribute To A Shining Starlet. Oh death! Where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? Another Casualty of a broken and failed State. Your story is particularly Gut Wrenching as it is equally heartbreaking.

You spent near enough all but two of your 25 years on earth in the Country of your Birth, the United Kingdom where your Parents and entire family reside. You were born, bred and educated in the United Kingdom. But two years ago, immediately after you graduated, you elected to visit Nigeria where your Grandparents reside - both of whom are in their Mid Eighties.

You signed up for the National Youth Service having freshly graduated with a sterling First Degree in Law and a Post Grad immediately afterwards. You were headhunted by an Energy Firm before you completed your NYSC and a presto you gallantly announced to your Nervous Parents - Dad a Diplomat with the United Nations based in Italy and Mum a Pharmacist based in the United Kingdom, your country of Birth - that you were going to permanently relocate and make Nigeria your permanent abode. Your Grandparents were ecstatic, you being their most favourite Grand Daughter.

You were a straight A student right from when you passed your GCSEs through to when you excelled in your A'levels...so much so that Prestigious Queen Mary's London University snapped you to study Law. You missed a First by whisker's. Nevertheless you made your mark all the way through. Then it all came crashing down.

What was supposed to be a routine journey to Church on a relatively sombre, otherwise uneventful Sunday morning on the Lekki/Ajah Expressway around the Lekki Phase 1 approach turned into a living and eternal nightmare for those of us left struggling to pick up the pieces. Our lives changed forever, never to be the same again.

A victim of the reckless and probably high on drinks/drugs 'Danfo' Driver. The most galling of the entire episode was the fact that the driver of that Danfo survived unscathed, RAN away from the scene leaving a trail of Death and Destruction in his wake. Four people died at the scene. Your New Toyota Corolla was a crumpled wreck. But the Fighter that you were, despite massive injuries, you fought and fought and fought.

Your Dad, via his status at the United Nations, got you into Lagoon Hospital where you were for a few days. When it became clear that the extent of your injuries was too severe for the local facilities here in Nigeria, An Air Ambulance was scrambled from the United Kingdom to get you much needed Specialist Care in the United Kingdom. Your tireless mum who flew in from the United Kingdom, barely 48 hours after the accident, accompanied you in the Air Ambulance. Still we Prayed and Prayed and Hoped for the Best.

Sadly We lost you a day after you arrived in the United Kingdom. The Surgeons tried desperately. You fought desperately to hang on. But in the end, it was not to be. The pain is palpably raw as it is numbling. We asked again and again, Why you? Why You? If only you had stayed on in the country of your Birth, If only...so many questions but very few answers. Your Parents, Your Grandparents, Oh! Your Grandma, with whom you celebrated her 80th Birthday over here in Nigeria a few years ago has refused to eat since she was informed of your passing nearly a week ago...All she repeatedly does is wail, wail to space "God Take Me instead, Give My Granddaughter back to Nigeria. Nigeria Needs Her, Her Parents Need her. God Take me. God Take Me.".

These are indeed extremely perilous times. And so it was that having just spent barely a few weeks in Nigeria after a prolonged Winter holiday and Christmas in the United Kingdom with family and friends, I now find myself in the rather unenviable position of scrambling for the next flight out back to the United Kingdom just so that I can attend your Funeral this weekend. Someone retorted to me "Oh, you know, 'our tradition' forbids older relatives attending and being present at funerals where the deceased is much younger than us..." I snapped back, which tradition? And what has tradition ever done for us? What did Tradition ever give to HER?

Buhari's anti-corruption campaign may lead to trouble - Fasehun.

Founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Frederick Fasehun, says Pres Buhari led government may run into trouble if they are not careful in their fight against corruption. Fasehun said this in an interview with Daily Independent.
“Look, I am appealing to those in power not to dig into some of these reported scams because it may unearth situations the government itself may not wish to unearth. With the way they are going, national leaders are being involved and a country boasts of its national leaders.
By the time you downgrade every national leader, you disgrace and embarrass them, and there will be no country to think of. I understand plea bargaining is going on, that is good enough”he said.

The incoming Olubadan of Ibadan, Balogun Saliu Adetunji, has disclosed to a PM News correspondent that he wept bitterly when he heard that his predecessor, the late Oba Odulana Odugade 1 had joined his ancestors.

According to him, “this is the last thing I expect at this moment. I had never thought that Oba Odugade will leave us now that we have started preparing for his 102 birthday anniversary.

“Can we question God? No, we can’t and so we have to accept whatever God brings our way.”

As regards the relationship that existed between the duo, the incoming monarch said, “We had very good relationship. He was a good father. He was a good man. He was a good king. He was too good. He guided us well when he was on earth. We will surely miss him. I pray that God will console us in Ibadan and we will continue from where he stopped. We will continue with the agitation for the creation of Ibadan State.”

He said he was grateful to God to see today saying, “If anybody says that I will become Olubadan, I will not believe the person but now I know God is great and will serve him for the rest of my life.”

Man Found With Human Head Said He Had To Go Into Rituals Because Life Was Tiring.

The Police in Enugu State have arrested a suspected ritualist, identified as John Igwe for being in possession of human head. Daily Post reports that the suspect was on his way to Abakiliki for money ritual before he was arrested by men of the Enugu State Police Command.

John confessed that he has struggled so much to earn a living but to no avail, adding that he ran into a friend who introduced him to a native doctor.
