The President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has signed into law a Bill making same-sex marriages illegal, and an indictable offence (Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill 2013). Under it, anyone who enters into a same-sex marriage or civil union can go to prison for 14 years. Punishment is up to 10 years in prison for anyone who operates a Gay Club or runs/belongs to a Gay Organization, or makes a public show of it. It should be noted that 90% of Nigerians SUPPORT this Bill, even though the USA and most Western countries are castigating Nigeria.
