The former Chief of General Staff under the Abacha junta, General Oladipupo Diya, has been asked by a Lagos High Court, along with other Directors of his Funeral (Undertakers) Firm, to cough out the sum of N5.5 million as damages for assault and battery of a staff/mortician, Oluwatosin Onamade. The incident in question took place sometime in 2008, when Onamade was thoroughly beaten, his belongings seized, and forced out of his job. The judge, Justice Opeyemi Oke, described the action as condemnable, and an arbitrary use of power.
