A United Nations Report of World Population Prospects released Thursday predicted that the world population, presently at 7.2billion, will shoot up to 8.1billion in 2025. It is expected to reach 9.5billion by mid-century, and clocking 11billion by 2100. It says West African countries could be the world's 3rd most populous by the end of the century. Therefore more than half of the growth predicted between now and 2050 is expected in Africa, where it will more than double from 1.1billion to 2.4billion. It will continue to rise, and the number of persons living in the continent could well reach 4.2billion, which is more than 35% of total global population, by 2100. It means that Nigeria's population will surpass that of the USA even by 2050.
