'NEW NIGERIA' NEWSPAPER MD, HELD HOSTAGE BY UNPAID STAFF.

The Managing Director of the 'New Nigeria' Newspaper, Tukur Abdulrahman, and his management staff are being held hostage by angry staff, protesting non-payment of their salaries. They have not been paid for over fifteen months. The hostages are being held at the Company's Kaduna headquarters. The New Nigeria newspaper is collectively owned by the Northern States of Nigeria. The irate staff are demanding that the 19 Northern governors must pay up their owed salaries before the hostages are released.
It will be recalled that a similar incident occurred early last year, after which the Paper's Political Editor, Ibrahim Adamu, died while awaiting his unpaid salaries. Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, is said to be chairing a Northern Governors' Committee, in a bid to 'solving the problem'. The Newspaper is 47 years old, with nothing to show for it.

  • Northern Governors...Una no dey shame sef? Una go chop local government funds, chop state allocation funds, and also chop money for poor workers' salaries. So so chop chop!!!
  • One single 'security vote' from a selfless governor can pay up all d gaddem salary. How much d tin be sef? Ee no pass wettin una dey give those una shara yanrinyan babes every week.
  • In fact, I will suggest that the owed workers should go to the venue of the so-called Northern Governors' Committee, and block it up, and hold dem hostage. Make dem see how poor man dey suffer. Yeye people.
  • SOLIDARITY FOREVERRRRR.
