Vandals have ruptured an oil pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Nation Petroleum Corporation in the Akinbo Island area of Lagos State. At about midnight, the criminals sneaked into the Jetty in three barges and canoes, and proceeded to siphon thousands of litres of petrol into numerous jerry cans. The explosion happened at about 4.30 am in the morning, after several hours of unhindered operation, and despite the fact that a security post is located only 200 metres from the position. It is said that petrol is usually pumped at the rate of 600 cubic metres per hour from this location to the Mosimi Depot.
